4 YOGA POSES TO DETOXIFY YOUR LIVER
4 YOGA POSES TO DETOXIFY YOUR LIVER

As the weather starts to cool down, now is the perfect time to work on getting rid of those lingering toxins.

The liver is one of the largest organs in the body and plays an imperative role in our health. These four yoga poses make it even easier to ensure your liver is strong and healthy. Pair these easy postures with Nature’s Care Pro Series exclusive range of healthy vitamins targeted to help restore your liver.

Forward Fold (Padangusthasna)

To complete this pose, simply stand grounded with your feet at a hips distance and bend from the hinge of the hips forward. You can fold your arms and hold opposing elbows or simply fold them around your legs. Let your head fall forwards. Don’t worry if you can’t get your head all the way to your knees, this will come in time.

This posture gives the liver a massage as the body is folded over itself. It gets stagnated blood moving and circulating properly. This nifty move helps calm the brain and nervous system as blood rushes to the head, if only we could pause and do this move in the middle of every meeting.

Supine Spinal Twist (Supta Matsyendrasana)

For this posture, simply place your arms out wide. Let one leg roll across the body until your spine is stretched as far as it can go while still remaining comfortable. Keep the shoulders flat on the floor. Look away from the leg that is across the body for optimum stretch.

The axial rotation of the spine caused by the position allows your glutes and spine to stretch and inturn gives your internal organs a massage. This pose will leave your liver feeling purified and revitalised.

Cobra Pose (Bhujangasana)

For this move, place your hands on either side of your chest and begin to press the heart up and away from the floor, keeping the shoulders down and away from the ears. You can press up part way and rest on your forearms, which is called ‘easy-hand’ cobra, or press all the way up until your arms are straight. The move can further be practiced with the belly face down on the floor.

This posture stretches the whole length of the spine and if done correctly, also stretches the transverse and rectus abdominis (which help to hold your liver and other organs in place) all the way up to your neck muscles. The stretching of the abdominal wall transfers to the liver and helps increase blood flow to this area of the body.

Any Yoga Inversion

There are many types of yoga inversions including headstands, shoulder stand, handstand or even wide legged forward folds. Take your pick of any inversion to detoxify your liver.

The body also detoxifies itself through the lymph flow. This posture works by turning the body, literally ‘on its head’ to reverse the normal flow and help the body rid itself of impurities that gather in different organs – including the liver.

These yoga postures also send blood flow to the ‘master’ gland, the pituitary, which regulates the entire endocrine system. When the lymph is moved through the body via an inversion, the lymphocytes can attack foreign bacteria and viruses and the liver is free to work on things like pesticides and other toxins that may be within your body. When both the lymph system and the liver are cleansed together, the body enjoys greater health and less risk of disease.

NC Liver Detox 35000

Health food supplements are a great way to compliment these yoga poses. Pro Series Liver Detox is specially formulated to help maintain a healthy digestive system and to support liver detoxification. It contains milk thistle, which is a hepatoprotective herb with antioxidant activity to assist in protecting the liver from the effects of toxins and pollution.
